FWBO Liverpool

We are modern western Buddhist movement with centres throughout the U.K., Europe, the Americas, India, Australia and New Zealand. We are a broad movement takings teachings from the wide Buddhist tradition with special emphasis on the Bodhisattva tradition of Mahayana Buddhism.

History

The FWBO was was founded in 1967 by Sangharakshita, an Englishman ordained into the Theravada tradition, with then over twenty years experience of Buddhist practice in India. His aims were to found a Buddhist movement which met the needs and challenges of practice in modern western society. We are now a well established part of Buddhism in the West.

The teachings of Sangharakshita are the basis on which the FWBO is built. He is a respected and creative commentator on Buddhism with many books and commentaries published.
